The Africa Adaptation Programme is holding a Side Event at the 17th Conference of the Parties entitled “Africa Adaptation Programme: Building Foundational Partnerships“.

AAP was formed under the framework of “Japan-UNDP Joint Framework for Building Partnership to Address Climate Change in Africa.” The side event in Durban will highlight this important partnership and the subsequent foundational partnerships formed in AAP’s countries that are providing: 1) improved access to climate data and information management from regional and global partners; and, 2) better media capacities for accurate and timely coverage of climate change for the public. These partnerships are developing long-term networks that facilitate structured interaction in order to advance effective communication of climate risks and impacts for public awareness and political action.

The event will include an opening statement by the Government of Japan with follow up remarks by Japan International Cooperation Agency. Then presentations will be made on AAP’s partnerships in media and data capacity building. The presentations will be followed by an interactive segment highlighting the value of communication among journalists and climate data users, who have important roles in informing the public and governments in order to enable effective adaptation.  Refreshments will be served.
